July is South Asian Heritage Month, running from 1 July to 1 August, and South Asian Voices Bristol CIC is proud to be celebrating with an exciting programme of events across the city.

 

This year, we are delighted to be working in partnership with South Asian Heritage Month Bristol, BCFM Radio, and a range of community organisations to deliver a month of celebration, culture, conversation, music and community engagement. Together, we aim to showcase the richness, diversity and contributions of South Asian communities while creating opportunities for people of all backgrounds to come together.

 

Our celebrations began on 1 July with a special two-hour live radio takeover in partnership with BCFM Radio and The Climate Connection Project. The programme, Unity in Diversity, featured inspiring guests, engaging discussions and a preview of the exciting events taking place throughout South Asian Heritage Month.

 

Join us throughout July as we celebrate heritage, amplify community voices, and inspire connection through a vibrant programme of cultural events, performances, interviews and activities across Bristol.

We are also thrilled to share some fantastic news. South Asian Voices Bristol CIC has been named a finalist at the Midlands Business & Community Champions (MBCC) Awards 2026 in the Community Champion category. This recognition celebrates the dedication of our volunteers, partners and supporters, and the positive impact we continue to make within our communities.

 

South Asian Summer!

 

More great news in July: on 19 July, South Asian Voices Bristol CIC and BCFM Radio will host a dedicated South Asian talent stage at the Harbourside Festival at Brunel Square in the Docklands Yard area. For more information, please visit the Harbourside website. The event runs from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. and will feature Bollywood DJs, dhol players, dancers, a dance workshop and storytelling. It is a free Family Sunday event, open to families and everyone, and promises to be absolutely amazing

Bristol Celebrates South Asian Heritage Month at Bristol Museum & Art Gallery

​

Bristol Museum & Art Gallery came alive with colour, culture and community as people from across the city gathered to celebrate South Asian Heritage Month. Organised in partnership with Bristol Museums and Bristol City Council, the festival embraced this year's national theme, Unity in Diversity, bringing together communities with heritage from Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

The free, family-friendly event featured traditional music and dance, fashion, poetry, cultural displays, arts and crafts, food and interactive activities, creating a welcoming space for people of all ages to learn about and celebrate South Asia's rich heritage. The event was co-hosted by Pat Hart, CEO of BCFM Radio, and Sheetal Jethwa, Founder of South Asian Voices Bristol CIC, and welcomed civic guests including the Lord Mayor of Bristol, the Lord-Lieutenant and the High Sheriff of Bristol.

The festival highlighted the importance of celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of South Asian communities while creating opportunities for connection, understanding and inclusion across Bristol. It also marked an exciting step forward as part of Bristol's growing city-wide South Asian Heritage Month programme, with events taking place across the city throughout July.
